Oh, the fun water for fun people. It is the most popular drink in the United States, too. There is a lot of different kinds of information on this spirit out there. Some are myths and some are true. Balls Vodka always likes to give it to you straight. Here we have collected five things you probably didn’t already know about. Almost all of these facts are good to know if you’re a vodka drinker (you can probably live without knowing #5, but it’s interesting!).
Here are the five interesting facts you probably didn’t know about vodka:
1. It can be less likely to give you a hangover:
Drinking clear alcohol is the way to go when it comes to reducing your chances of getting a hangover. Vodka is the purest alcoholic drink there is after all. Due to the distilling process, vodka is cleaned and basically made of ethanol and water. If anything, the name “vodka” pretty much translates to “water” in Russian — “voda” means “water” and adding the suffix “ka” translates it to “little water.” Water is essentially life, so no wonder this wonderful clear liquids help us out!
2. The distillation process for vodka is essential for quality:
The number of times and the method used to distill it are important in achieving the right balance, and we like our vodka balanced, don’t we? The more times it is distilled, the cleaner and purer it becomes. Distilling also affects the taste and consistency in the vodka, which of course plays a major role in what we choose. Balls Vodka is actually distilled six times — so you know it’s good!
3. Vodka is not only for drinking:
This spirit has many uses. Originally, it was used medicinally. It can disinfect wounds, treat poison ivy, be used to clean, can be used to make aftershave, and more. Check out our blog posts 3 Uses for Vodka Other Than Drinking! and 3 At-Home Uses for Vodka Other Than Drinking to learn more!
4. Vodka has a day:
Yep, the national day in the United States for vodka is October 4th. This year it lands on a thirsty Thursday! It started in 2009, so it’s only almost a decade old. There is even a website for this national day. Of course, we’re allowed to celebrate vodka and celebrate with it any other day of the year as long we drink responsibly.
5. There’s a bottle of vodka that costs $3.75 million:

It’s called Billionaire Vodka (even though the price is in the millions, but still, that’s expensive enough!). This vodka is distilled from pure wheat and crystal clear water. It is also filtered numerous times. Want to know the extra part of it that makes it so pricey? The water used was flowing over real diamonds prior, and those diamonds themselves are worth millions of dollars — also, there are a nice 3,000 diamonds studded to the bottle. Pure luxury.
